The Human Development Research Initiative (HDRI) is proud to announce that it has officially become a member of the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL). Our membership was approved by HEAL’s General Assembly, held on 13 October 2026.

HEAL is the leading European not-for-profit organisation addressing how the environment affects human health. It brings together a broad network of health professionals, patient groups, environmental organisations, public health bodies and civil society actors working to ensure that health is placed at the heart of European environmental and climate policy, from air quality and chemicals to energy, climate change and pollution.

For HDRI, joining HEAL is a natural step that connects two of our six thematic pillars: Environment, Climate & Energy, and Global Health. It also builds on our recent efforts to strengthen our environmental engagement, including our membership of the European Commission’s Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform, Biodiversity Action Europe, the EU4Ocean Coalition and the GEF CSO Network.

As a youth-led civil society organisation with more than 200 members across all 27 EU Member States, HDRI will bring a distinct perspective to the alliance: that of young people, who will live longest with the health consequences of today’s environmental decisions. Through HEAL, we look forward to amplifying youth voices in European debates on environmental health, contributing to joint advocacy, and learning from the expertise of the alliance’s members.

“We are delighted to join HEAL and its community of organisations working at the intersection of health and the environment,” said Gurgen Petrosyan, President of HDRI. “Young people are on the front line of the climate and pollution crises, both as those most affected and as those driving change. Our membership of HEAL will help us ensure that their health, their concerns and their ideas are reflected in European policy.”

We warmly thank HEAL’s General Assembly and Secretariat for welcoming HDRI into the alliance, and we look forward to working together with fellow members in the months and years ahead.
