Good policy starts with good evidence. HDRI is opening a standing, ongoing search for Permanent Researchers to join one of our five thematic pillars, Environment, Climate & Energy; Migration & Security; Global Health; Gender Equity; and Economic, Social & Cultural Rights. This is not a one-off vacancy: we are continuously building our research bench, and we welcome applications year-round from candidates who want to contribute to any of these areas.
We're looking for Permanent Researchers, sharp, curious minds who can turn data, case studies, and policy documents into evidence-based insight. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape the ideas that HDRI brings to policymakers, partners, and the public.
If you are analytical, rigorous, and genuinely curious about development challenges, we want to hear from you, whichever pillar speaks to you most.
The Opportunity
As a Permanent Researcher, you will contribute directly to HDRI's published outputs, research papers, policy briefs, and reports, that inform real conversations in the policy arena. You'll work within your chosen thematic area, alongside a wider international team of young researchers and professionals.
Because this is a standing recruitment rather than a single deadline, you can apply whenever you're ready, and indicate the thematic pillar (or pillars) you'd like to contribute to.
What You'll Own

Research — Conduct rigorous research on development-related topics aligned with your chosen HDRI thematic area.

Analysis — Analyze data, case studies, and policy documents to develop evidence-based recommendations and insights.

Collaboration — Work with fellow team members to integrate findings into cohesive, impactful outputs such as research papers, policy briefs, and reports.

Engagement — Take part in discussions, workshops, and events to engage stakeholders and share your research findings.

Strategy — Support the development and implementation of HDRI's broader research agenda.
What We're Looking For
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field, such as international development, public policy, economics, sociology, or a related discipline.
Experience & Skills

Strong research and analytical skills, with experience in literature reviews, data analysis, and policy assessment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.

Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Familiarity with research methods and tools, along with a genuine interest in staying current on trends in international development.

Enthusiasm for exploring innovative solutions to global development challenges, paired with a firm commitment to social justice.
